Pest Information

Rodents

Rats and Mice

  • Rats and mice are generally nocturnal animals and are rarely seen during the day except when in very high numbers.
  • Mice tend to seek shelter and form nests inside buildings where it is warm and dry. They rarely stray more than a few meters from their nests sites.
  • Rats Generally nest outside, under buildings, in piles of debris or in overgrown parts of the section.
  • Both rats and mice are incredibly agile and can climb most vertical surfaces, leap across wide spaces and squeeze through very small gaps. They are also good swimmers.
  • You need to look for droppings, gnaw marks, smear marks and tracks. You may also hear rats in your walls and ceilings should they invade your house

Pigeons and Birds

  • Pigeons tend to be found in small flocks of around twenty to thirty birds.
  • Seeds and grains make up the bulk of their diet, but they are willing to sample just about anything.
  • Feral pigeons are a generally gray bird with slightly iridescent feathers on the neck that shine pink and green in the sunlight.
  • A pigeon nest is usually constructed with small twigs and located on covered building ledges that resemble cliffs.
  • Pigeons are a visual and aesthetic problem. They are only a problem when present in great numbers or when roosting on buildings or under bridges. Their droppings can disfigure buildings and cause sanitary and health hazards.
  • Preventing pest birds will increase your property value, eliminate safety and health hazards by preventing the spread of diseases and improve/protect your image.

Insects

Ants

  • Ants do serve an important role in the ecosystem, but as their colonies grow and multiply treatment may be necessary.
  • They become particularly troublesome when they come indoors and get into foods. Once a few ants arrive hundreds can quickly follow.
  • Ants come indoors either looking for food and water or to find shelter.

Roaches

  • American cockroaches are found in food processing areas and food storage areas, as well as other types of buildings.
  • They are active when the temperature is 70 degrees or higher, but they can survive lower temperatures with the right conditions.
  • Cockroaches are often found in sewers and basements, particularly around pipes and drains.

Bed Bugs

  • Bed Bugs like to hide in small cracks and crevices close to a human environment. They can be found behind baseboards, wallpaper, upholstery, and in furniture crevices.
  • Bed bugs are also known to survive in temporary or alternative habitats, such as backpacks and under the seats in cars, buses and trains.
  • Although bed bugs can dine on any warm-blooded animal, they primarily dine on humans. Bed bugs do not transmit diseases, but their bites can become red, itchy welts.
